So again, why do you want to use Twitter for marketing?
Let's take a look.
Numbers don't lie compadres, but they do provide useful information for how you manage a proper Social Adworking campaign.
Overall, the diversity in Twitter users is amazing. It is not really that ethno-centric, nor is it disproportionately weighted by one sex over the other. 18 to 24 year olds seem to be the sweet spot in terms of the age of most Twitter-ers. So there you go, you've got a pretty darn good picture of the national marketing demographic.
Another interesting thing is the comparative growth between other social networking sites, and Twitter alone. While it seems the explosive growth we've seen in social networking users might be slowing a bit, the growth in Twitter is much more significant.
So, where does that leave you Mr. Or Ms. Small Business Owner?
Well, knowing 50% of Internet users also use Facebook, and knowing that Twitter increased its user base by 8% in one month, I'd would be asking...
Would Twitter/Facebook marketing serve a purpose for my local small business? Would my clients be interested in being connected to us? Why?
What information am I going to put out there? (Again I follow the rule that there are certain things that should be said, and a certain time to say them. Have a second set of eyes read what you are about to Tweet, so you don't come off sounding like a wanker.)
What are my expectations with this, and what are is the best case scenario?
Either way, you have half of all Internet users accessing Facebook, and a fifth accessing Twitter. Those are numbers that can't be ignored.
Last thing, my wife came home with a bag from a shopping trip to the mall, and printed on the bag, besides the name, were two things..."Follow Us On Twitter," and "Find Us On Facebook."

Google Wave, Wired, and Pulp Fiction
I too am anxiously awaiting that golden ticket, my express lane to the techno-cool cutting edge. I am talking about Google Wave.
Here is an excellent rundown on Google Wave using a fine dialogue from Pulp Fiction. Thanks Wired. This is pretty cool, and will be posted as a link on my facebook page as soon as I can get to a computer where the firewall will actually let me access my account. Damn work internet.

Monzu Meeting of the Marketing Minds
If you've ever checked out our sister site Gonzo Guide Green Bay, you know that we are big fans of a fine little bistro/cakery tucked comfortably in to Green Bay's Broadway District.
Today we had the opportunity to sit down with Benjamin Jeanson, owner and chef at Monzu Bistro and Custom Cakes, and throw around some ideas and concepts as they relate to using social networking to market their establishment.
I've got to tell you it was a pretty cool conversation. It seems like there are a lot of things we could work with them on, and I think he really got a feel of how we might make the marketing end of their social networking take off.
From a cool blog authored by Benjamin that talks about some of the creative dishes you can make at home using local Green Bay ingredients (beer and sausages...kidding, or maybe not), to facebook posts about their innovative culinary style and training, either way it would be cool to hear from the people that make Monzu a "Best of the Bay" cakery/bistro.
I am sincerely excited about the opportunity to work with Jennifer and Benjamin.

Blogs As Marketing Tools - The FTC's New Regs.
In Ian Paul's Huffington Post article, he provides a good overview of what the FTC has released in terms of regulations for those who use blogs as marketing tools.
The main point in all of this is transparency. Basically, if you plan to blog about how great a company or restaurant is, and you're getting paid by them to do so, you better disclose it. Trying to promote truth in advertising, I get it. Same holds true apparently for the social networking scene.
I have no problem with any of this. With the increase in the use of these mediums for marketing, you had to know that some sort of FTC rules were coming.
Either way they should be followed...Do you think we are that far away from the FTC actually being able to monitor all business related posts to blogs, and social networking sites? I smell some beaurucratic red tape coming.

The Little Ideas That Could...
IdeaFields has been a name and concept I have been carrying around with me for awhile. But like any small business you have to start with a dream, and an idea. And once you have those things, you have to wait for the right opportunity. I guess I am willing to chance it that this is that opportunity.
This blog is going to be dedicated to providing our clients, and our community with ongoing feedback about the world of social networking for local small business. It will be a space where we discuss some of the things we are doing for our clients, and beyond that it will be dedicated to actually spotlighting the businesses themselves.
While we don't have any tangible clients yet, we're working on it. And frankly I think it just a matter of time before you see the first client related post with the links to their brand new Facebook and Twitter pages.
Thanks for all of your past, present, and future support. If we are successful it will be far more than just us who benefit.
